The Precursors.
An advanced civilization once ruled thousands of star systems across the Milky Way. They vanished long ago, yet their influence lives on in the myths of many cultures — and in the hyperspace lanes they left behind. Now the Galactic Council sends ships along those lanes, to explore what remains of their empire.
The Corruption.
It began with the Rise, when the first Rift tore open. Through it came the Corruption: a synthetic swarm of nanomachines with an insatiable appetite. It consumed everything in its path and drove the Precursors from their own empire. Now, it is rising again.
